Establishing the foundation with a design system

Background
Cisco is working through the redesign of their corporate site. Given the vast offerings under the Cisco umbrella, the site has to be modular and systematic. In order to maintain the design intent, the client needs a Design System that can maintain how the site is designed as well as scale to new content and information as the company continues into the future.

Concept and Design
My team and I joined the ongoing project to define and deliver how Cisco's design system should be. We worked closely with the client to identify the needs, what their vision is, and understand how different teams will be using it. The design system is named "Muse." We established the site, defined governance, created the process of adding or amending the content, created a video explaining the purpose of a design system, and worked with the Cisco design team who will eventually be the governing body to maintain and uphold the Muse Design System.

Results and Impact
Cisco understood they needed a design system in place. But they didn't understand the full scope of what goes on to creating and maintaining it. My team and I established all the details they needed to have an effective design system. The Muse Design System became a strong foundation for their digital needs that continue to maintain the Cisco brand identity while saving money on future designs and development.
